OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of Directorate of Medical Education are:-

  • To provide Specialist Medical Care and services to people through Teaching Hospitals.
  • To impart quality Medical Education to undergraduates, P. G. and Super Speciality post graduates through Medical Colleges and Teaching Hospitals.
  • To provide training in Nursing, Pharmacy, Different Paramedical Courses, Rural Health Care etc. through different institutes under this Directorate.
  • To perceive that the high end Technology in medical services reach to the Rural and Urban Areas.
  • Research and Development.

  • To provide Tertiary Health Care Services through teaching hospitals and specialist Hospitals.
  • Imparting Quality Medical Education to under graduates, PG and Super Speciality students through Medical Colleges and attached Hospitals.

  • Compulsory Rural Posting after completion of MBBS course /Resident Specialist Services by the Post PG Diploma/Degree candidates.

M.B.B.S.:

Course offered at AMC, GMC, SMC, JMC, and FAAMC. Session start in the month of August of every year. There are total 626 no of seats. For category-wise seat distribution click here. The state quota seats are filled by intended rank holders in the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council(AHSEC) examination and candidates selected on the basis of merit in the entrance examination held every year followed by counselling. B.D.S.:

Course offered at RDC, Guwahati. Session start in the month of August of every year. There are total 40 no of seats. For category-wise seat distribution click here. State quota seats are filled by intended rank holders in the AHSEC examination and candidates selected on the basis of merit in the entrance examination held every year followed by counselling. Last date of admission into the BDS course is 30th September.Click here

M.D./M.S.:

Course offered at AMC, GMC &SMC. Session start in the month of June of every year. There are total 385 Nos. of seats. For category-wise seat distribution Click here. State quota seats are filled on the basis of merit in the entrance examination held every year. Last date of admission into the MD/MS course is 30th June which may be modified as per MCI direction, pending court cases related to admission process etc. For seat allotment in MD/MS course in different specialities in different colleges. M.D.S.:

Course offered at RDC, Guwahati. Session start in the month of June of every year. There are total 10 Nos. of seats. For category wise seat distribution Click here. Courses in different super specialities are offered at GMC. Session start as in the month of August of every year. There are total 16 Nos. of seats. which are filled on the basis of merit in the entrance examination held every year followed by counselling. Course offered at Institute of Pharmacy attached to AMC,GMC & SMC. Session start in the month of August of every year. There are total 200 Nos. of seats. B.Sc. Nursing:

Course offered at Regional College of Nursing, Guwahati, B.Sc. Nursing College Dibrugarh & B.Sc. Nursing College Silchar. Session start in the month of August of every year. There are total 180 Nos of seats. D.M.R.H.C.:

Course offered at Medical Institute, Jorhat. Session start in the month of September of every year. There are total 100 Nos. of seats filled by candidates selected only from Assam State on the basis of merit as per marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Higher Secondary examination. DIPLOMA IN PARAMEDICAL SCIENCES:

Course offered at Institutes of Paramedical Sciences, GMC, AMC, SMC, JMC & FAAMC Session start in the month of September of every year. There are total 332 no of seats filled by candidates selected on the basis of merit as per marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Higher Secondary examination. Paramedical courses at Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS), Aizawl /Regional Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (RIPSAT), Agartala:

15 Nos. of candidates are selected every year (for RIPANS) & 4 Nos. of candidates are selected very year (for RIPSAT) for admission into Bachelor Degree in different paramedical courses against the state quota seats. Candidates are selected on the basis of merit as per marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics & English in Higher Secondary examination depending on the course. B) Medical Education to Under Graduates, Post Graduates and Super Speciality PGs through Medical Colleges :

4 Undergraduate teaching Regular theory and practical classes are conducted as per MCI Norms. Conduction of Tests, internal Assessments and University examinations are as per the schedule given by SSUHS, Guwahati
5 PG Teaching PG teaching, clinical Posting, theory and practical, seminar and journal clubs are as per MCI Norms and as per guidelines of SSUHS, Guwahati.
6 Conducting CME Conducting regular CME for the post graduates and faculty as per the schedule given by SSUHS Guwahati.
C) Organ transplantation approvals:-                                                                                                               
1 Compulsory Rural Posting after completion of MBBS course After completion of MBBS course all the candidates have to do one year compulsory rural service or 5(five) years of state health service.
2 Resident Specialist Services by the Post PG Diploma/Degree candidates All the PG degree/diploma candidates in Assam medical colleges after completion of their course shall work in Secondary and Tertiary care government hospitals of Assam for a period of one year.

This is done by one Committee constituted by Govt. of Assam with Director of Medical Education, Assam as the Chairman of the Committee.

D) Compulsory Rural posting after completion of MBBS course /Resident Specialist Services by the Post PG Diploma/Degree candidates.
E)NOC for passport & Permission to travel abroad
  1. Issuing NOC for passport

    There is a committee formed by the State Govt. for scrutinization of the application forms and after scrutinization the application forms are forwarded to Govt.

  2. Permission to travel abroad

    The applicant has to furnish the application along with required documents to the Director of Medical Education. After scrutiny by the office of DME, the same are forwarded to the government.
